If a modern robot has only one narrow specialization, then it is capable of almost miracles. The new intelligent mechanism with the unpronounceable name HRP3L-JSK is different from similar ones. This bipedal robot keeps balance very well and does not fall if someone pushes or kicks it in order to overturn.
The authors of the project were Japanese scientists from the JSK laboratory at the University of Tokyo. If you push the robot, within a thousandth of a second, it will calculate 170 possible positions for the legs and choose the optimal one among them, which will keep the balance. The developers explain that to complete the task, you should not only determine the proper position, but also actually take it so as not to fall. For this, special electric drives were used, capable of reacting quickly enough to withstand the force of gravity.
The movement of the HRP3L-JSK robot is carried out using a motor with a high operating voltage and liquid cooling, the charge source is a capacitor with a capacity of 13.5 farads. A capacitor has proven to be a more efficient solution than a battery, because the required amperage is not available for traditional batteries. The power of the electric motor is 200 W, at a rotation speed of 1000 degrees per second, it develops a torque of 350 Nm on the knees of the robot. This is really enough for the robot to move its legs to the desired position so as not to fall. The problem of the current prototype is the need for external power supply, the resources of modern batteries for the HRP3L-JSK robot are not enough.
